How can target language teachers increase students' speaking ability through the use of technology? For sure, teachers need to really find a website or tools created by technology that offers students to practice speaking both inside or outside the classroom. Thus, I am going to introduce you to an amazing website: brainshark website.
What is it? Well, it is a website that offers people to freely make use of it to practice speaking, assuming that they are going to present something like power point/ video presentation by just simply adding their voice. It is actually not only for teachers/students' benefits but also for those businessmen or anyone else.
Here is an example of a presentation that I have come up with:
What does Brainshark offer you? 1. This tool is very well known as a video with the combination of text, images and audio, which allows for greater impact and retention value than text, images or audio alone. 2. It is very easy and fast to create Brainshark on-demand video presentations, which offers low cost/ free means of communicating important and timely information. 3. More for one-way communication, which need no immediate feedback from the audience. This tool is very effective (impactful) as it allows the speaker/ presenter to track the viewing activity and collect interactive feedback from the audiences.
However, there are some disadvantages of Brainshark. 1. cannot assess students authentic language due to discard and retry. 2. time consuming for teachers to mark. 3. no real audience(difficult to provide a sense of audience while talking alone), students tend to just simply read their written text rather than automatically speaking and presenting. 4.students need to acquire certain other skills like skill to use Microsoft Power point; less validity.
